Text Appearing After Image:
Dr. DamasoT. Laines handsome dwelling is situated at a stones throw from Santa Cata-lina Battery, on O Street, corner of 23d, Vedado. Its resemblance to the Longfellow Man-sion in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is remarkable, for the architecture is partly colonial andpartly of a style to suit the tropics. High studded rooms, marble floors, hygienic improve-ments and up-to-date attachments, are the chief characteristics. A wing of the house recentlybuilt on, is screened.with wire netting, and might serve for rooms to sleep in the open air.Spacious grounds, outlined with a border or variegated crimson and green leaves of tropicalplants, a smooth lawn, offset the stately white mansion on the hill. Dr. Laines practice is principally among Americans in Cuba, and he is a skillful surgeon aswell as distinguished plusician. He has fitted up part of his house as a private hospital andalso has an office at 98 Prado St., Havana. American nurses are in attendance on hispatients at his residence. Dr.
