ld be clean washed, and soil chopped down smallenough to work conveniently into the pots. A pieceof fibry turf with the fine earth shaken out of it willanswer for drainage in the small pots. Then fill themwith the prepared compost consisting of loam and adash of horse-droppings, and put a thin covering ofsifted leaf-mould on the surface of the soil in each potto peg the runner upon, in order that it may takeroot quickly at the joint, and stop growth beyond thelatter by pinching. Plunge the pots between everyalternate row of plants, so that they may be easilyreached with water, and if it can be arranged to haveplants for producing runners near to a good supply ofwater, where a boy with the assistance of a hose-pipecan attend to their daily requirements in dry weather,it will be something saved in labour.
