The flowers have a stout petiole\ of an inch in length, a many-ribbed calyx aboutI inch long, divided half-way down into five narrowsubulate lobes, and a conspicuous corolla, which hasa slender tube 3 to 34 inches in length, slightlythickened in the upper third, and suddenly enlarged atthe mouth, especially on the upper side, and a spread-ing limb nearly 3 inches across consisting of fiveovate bhmt segments, which are white on the inner,greenish, like the tube, on the outer side, and takingon more or less of a purple tint as they fade. Thesurface of the corolla appears reticulate, and alsoshows a depressed midrib, which forms a ridge on theouter surface. In the evening the flowers exhale adelicious perfume, which pervades the atmosphere inthe vicinity of the plants. The whole plant, exceptthe inner surface of the corolla, is covered with hairs,
