The serpentine beds adorned with a single specimen Palm, foliage plant orsome other striking object. The aim is evidently tointroduce as much variety as possible compatilile withthe nature of the ground and in keeping witii the cha-racter nf the trees and shrubs that are retained aspermanent objects. One of the raised circles struckme as being very good; the centre plant, Araliapapyrifera, was surrounded with Hydrangeas andmixed Verbenas, and edged with Pelargonium Tilaniaand Salvia argentea, a splendid dwarf white-leavedplant for edging large beds or borders. Next to thisis a long curving bed of Wigandia caracasana,having a groundwork of mixed Petunias and LantanasFaviola and speciosa, and edged with PelargoniumManglesii and scarlet Tropaiolums.
