This newJapanese species, however, is a noteworthy ex-ception, and no more attractive border plant hasbeen introduced for many years. P. obtusatumin habit of growth differs but little from P.sanguisorba, but the flower scapes are of a de-lightful shade of carmine pink—a tint most un-common in herbaceous plants.
