It had a single erect, fleshystem : which was deep purple except near the top,where it gradually became greener in colour.There were several ovate-lanceo.ate, pale greenleaves, without stalks, and clasping the stem atthe base. Each leaf was from 2^ to 3 inchesin length, soft in texture, and with one con-spicuous vein on each side of the mid-rib. Asshown in the illustration, the plant bore fiveflowers, which, owing to the shortness oftheir stalks, are close to the stem. Thesepals and petals were creamy white incolour, the upper sepal being hooded, andpartly enclosing the narrower erect petals,these organs forming a kind of long arch over the column. The lateral sepals are spreadingwith a distinct median nerve. The lip, how-.ever, constitutes the most attractive part of theflower. It is large and spreading, somewhatwavy on the margin, and with a broad and con-spicuous zon
