Atthe end of the house a large AllamandaAndeTSonii trained to the roof bears scores offragrant blooms, and besides the general stoveplants a few specimens of the Cotton plant(Gossypium herbaceum) are grown. HOME CORRESPONDENCE. U Jakdinier Solitaire.—I was in-^irested in reading the excellent article on Lon-don and Wise (p. 181) by Mr. Brotherston. Itis not easy to understand why The Retir dGardner should generally be thought to be atranslation oi one French book, lor as hevery rightly says it is a translation of•two books very important works in theirday and generation. The error may haveoriginated in the first place in the toohastv scanning of the title page, for a glanceinside the book would have easily disposed ofany question as to its composition. The titlepage of the first volume of The Retir d Gardnersays being a translation of Le JardinierSolitaire, while that of the second volume says, being a translation from the Sieur Louis Liger.Hence Liger has been credited with the author
