The works at Fort Schuyler, and on theopposite shore at Willets Point, although not quite up to dateas fortresses, present by their magnificent torpedo Byetem animpassable barrier to an enemy from abroad, and can easilybe maintained as a safe and suit protection to our city fromthe eastward. Van Cortlandt Park parade ground is the largest and bestlaid out in the State, and furnishes ample and convenient ac-commodation for the maineuvres and drill of our militiaregiments, troops and batteries. The foregoing are submitted as a very crude statement ofsome of the general advantages of the North Side, and takentogether with those which are specifically described in th^sepages, it must be conceded that we can offer health, free air,and every convenience which can be desired for the enjoy-ment of comforts or luxuries of life.
