First Wycliffite Version of the Gospels: earliestprinted edition, issued in 1848. John Wycliffe was thefirst Englishman to project a complete translation of thewhole Latin Bible into English. It was made not fromthe Old Latin, but from Jeromes revision, now generallyused, and therefore called the Vulgate.
