Summary[edit]

Description Durians have many fans in southeastern Asia, including here in Sumatra. This is despite a horrendous smell somewhere between excrement and dead fish. Known as the King of Fruit by its admirers, most hotels and public places will not let them through the door. Once inside a durian one is met with seeds set in a yellowish goop of post-nasal consistency, which tastes-- well rather sweet and fruity. The sensation is odd, as smell and taste usually combine to define flavor, but here they are sending very different signals. "Doing a Durian" is a bit like eating fruit yogurt in an outhouse.
