that has ever been made in this city,was made by the Democracy on Tuesday last, on the occasion of thereception of Judge Douglas. Our distinguished Senator was receivedat half past nine oclock, at the railroad depot, amid the booming ofcannon, and a most splendid display of torch lights and transparencies,accompanied by the welcoming, enthusiastic shouts of not less thanthree thousand live Democrats.—Four hundred blazing torches, andbeautiful transparencies in proportion, with bands of music and a pro-cession more than half a mile in length,—and the streets of the cityliterally thronged with people, in honor of the great statesman of theday, was a sight that did the hearts of the Democracy good to witness,while it struck terror to the hearts of their black republican foes. The Republican pro-cession was 19^ minutes in passing, without any stoppages, while theDouglas procession was 12^ minutes, including a brief stoppage. Thiswould indicate that the Republican procession was the largest byfrom 500 to 600.
