Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe Lone Protester - geograph.org.uk - 793778.jpg |
English: The Lone Protester When it was proposed to re-introduce trams to Croydon (which had not run since 1950), there was opposition, mainly from those who always travelled by motorcar and feared the trams would get in the way. A society was formed, called 'TRAMSTOP!' and Mr Les Hartridge was one of the prime movers. When work actually started, Mr Hartridge was not to be deterred, but took up his position on top of the underpass with his banner of protest. I do not know if Mr Hartridge is still alive: I admire his courage, if not his opinions! |
