English: The Observatory Alexandra Park Oldham Close to the centre of Oldham, Alexandra Park was built in 1865 to provide work for unemployed cotton workers during the 'cotton famine' caused by the American Civil War. The Meteorological Observatory was added in 1899 to commemorate Oldham's Golden Jubilee. |
