The first event of the three-day cele-bration took place Friday night whenabout 75 or 100 alumni and their wivesassembled at the Hillsdale Country Clubfor dancing, visiting, and a midnightlunch served by the local A T fi wivescommittee. Saturday morning there was themodel initiation conducted in the OddFellows Hall with Gordon Piatt ofGrand Rapids as the candidate. Laterin the day Gordon covered himself withglory when he scored the touchdown andkicked the point that enabled Hillsdaleto beat its homecoming rivals 7-0. The stag luncheon held Saturday noonat the Episcopal Parish House was agreat success. Over 125 men werepresent, including representatives fromthe Adrian chapter, alumni, actives andpledges from Beta Kappa. At this meet-ing Albert A. DeLapp, president of theBeta Kappa alumni, introduced JudgeC. C. Carlin of Angola, Ind., who actedas toastmaster. Speakers included FredC. Culver, Province Chief; Stewart

GROUP OF ALUMNI AT HILLSDALES FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY BANQUET 392 THE PALM, December, 1937 D, Daniels, Executive Secretary, whobrought regrets from Worthy GrandChief Benton, who was unable to attendbecause of illness; and Dr. HarryCrooks, President of Alma College, whoregaled the gathering with gems of hu-morous and philosophical comment. Dr.J. T. Rugh presented Golden Circle cer-tificates to four of the living chartermembers, A. E. Ewing, H. B. Wood-ward, James M. Davis, and Ora M.Coldren. Saturday night the homecoming ban-quet was held in the field house. Thismarked the official launching of the^Hillsdale in 1944 endowment drive,and was attended by 1,200 people, thelargest banquet in the history of thecollege. After the banquet recognitionwas given to Beta Kappa chapter. The Keefer Hotel was reserved byA T O and a buffet supper was servedthere late Saturday night.
