Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Queensferry Blue Bridge and the Old Bridge Abutment The blue Queensferry bascule type road bridge was built in 1926 to replace an even older bridge, which was on its right hand side. The curved shape of the two tall sections of the bridge indicate how the two sides used to roll backwards lifting the central road section for tall river traffic to pass. The bridge can no longer be raised in this way. The previous bridge was built across the river from two substantial stone abutments. The photo is taken from the abutment on the north side of the river and the one on the south side can be seen to the right of blue bridge, in front of the houses.
