Thechief article exported hence is ivo-ry, as the name implies; this, to-gether with some striped cottoncloths (acommodity in demand uponthe Gold Coast), arc the whole ofthe exports, if we except provisions,such as oxen, kids, hogs; also rice,peas, beans, citrons, oranges, co-coa-nuts, and sugar-canes, whichare here good of their kind, andremarkably cheap. Ivory is pur-chased in teeth and schrcvelios; thefirst includes all teeth above 15 lbs.each, the latter all under th;it weight;anj^ong which may be found, espe-cially if purchased to windward,some sea-horses teeth, an animalvery common in the rivers Gambiaand Nuneo. These are generallyabout sixteen inches long, exceed-ingly white, but so brittle as notto be easily worked.
