at theChurch Missions House in New York,yet he was in close touch with us, andfrom one to a dozen letters passed be-tween us on different subjects daily. Hewas invariably with us on the day of themonthly meeting of the Board of Mis-sions, and frequently once or twice amonth besides. Several times on some im-portant matter it seemed necessary to bein more personal touch with the par-ishes, and he willingly undertook the sig-nature of four or five thousand cer-tificates for the Sunday-school Auxiliary,or letters to the rectors. Sometimesthere was a call for an address at somedistant point to a group of businessmen, by a business man, and Mr.Thomas was always ready where it wasanyway possible in justice to other dutiesto fill the appointment, no matter atwhat personal inconvenience to himself. His position before the Church, andstanding among men of affairs, have at-tracted many large gifts for some partic-ular need in the field, or for investment,the income only to be used for definite

The securities wouldhave been brought to us, but with hisunfailing courtesy he felt it was due tothe contributor in this particular casethat we should go and receive them. As treasurer of the Mens Thank-Offering, to which he contributed thelargest individual sum, Mr. Thomas gaveunsparingly also of his time during thepast five years, first in gathering andcaring for the contributions, and then intheir distribution. As a member of the committee hayingthe care and investment of the TrustFunds of the Eoard, Mr. Thomass ser-vices were most valuable. Through his own gifts and the giftsof those whom he influenced, the ReserveDeposits of the Board, to be temporarilyused in that part of the year when con-tributions are few and then replaced. have been increased from $120,000 to$443,000.
