The Narragansett car ends the difficulty by entirely overcoming both obstacles,providing a long double-step car within the width of the standard single-step car, having seats ofstandard length, and rapid, safe and convenient in loading and unloading. All this is accomplishedby means of a Z-iron sill, which is not only a sill but an upper step, utilizing for the latter purposethe space ordinarily occupied by a thick wooden sill. This form of sill is the stiffest and strongestever used, and adds greatly to the general staunchness of the car. The illustration shows howunusually well the posts are secured.
