onsgives a good idea of the present ap-pearance of the overhauling section. Itwill be seen that the machine shop isplaced on an elevated section alongsidethe tracks, while the portion in front isused for blacksmith and miscellaneouswork. This section contains one pit anda 20-ton Maris crane. The other trackis for carpentry and painting. The machine tools installed were fur-nished by the Bement-Niles Works, ofthe Niles-Bement-Pond Company, andconsist of the following: One 24-in. en-gine lathe, one i8-in. engine lathe, one16-in. Stockbridge shaper, one Sigourneysingle-spindle drill, one No. 2 Bridge-port combination wet and dry grinder,and one Washburn twist drill grinder.v\ll of these tools, except the lathe, aredriven from one countershaft. The building is heated from the small steam plant, which contains a Buffalo blower outfit and Erie boilers. The pits areof the open type, the only obstruction being the concrete overhead duct carried from the roof beams, as shown inthe interior illustrations. The car house and shop are lighted by arc lamps, but in-candescent lamps are used elsewhere. The pit lamps are June 15, 1907.)
