At each feed spanis placed a General Electric type M. D. lightning arrester,which is grounded through a No. o bare copper wire. Nearthe ground this wire is protected by a ^-in. galvanizediron pipe 10 ft. long, and which has 2 ft. of the lower endburied in the ground. To prevent the pipe exercising achoking effect, it is made a part of the conductor by beingsoldered effectively to the wire at each end. One such return already in-stalled consists of eight 103-lb. 9-in.girder rails laid parallel in concrete.They are bonded with three No. 0000circ. mil bonds at each joint. It is proposed to install anothersimilar return, which will be carriedto the power house from the northernportion of the city.
