Text Appearing Before Image:
d cut out of eachan oval opening, one a little larger than the other, so thatby their use the border effect shown in Figure 12 can beobtained. These ovals must be as accurate as possible, and therefore brass forms of known accuracy should beused as guides when cutting them out. Place the smaller oval in perfect contact with thepractice sheet, and with a free vertical motion and a good even sprayblow in the design of the required density, working at that distancefrom the easel best suited to the operator, so as to secure uniformityin the work. When the design is complete, remove the smaller oval and replaceit with the larger, being sure that the margin between the larger ovaland the design is the same at all points. Give a light wash over theentire design to secure the border effect, after which set the brushto give a medium fine spray and work in the shadows as shown inthe illustration by working along the curve of the oval, the brushbeing used approximately one inch from the paper. 60
Text Appearing After Image:
Figure 12Oval Design zvith Bcvd Edge 61 Chapter XXLesson Thirteen UT from a sheet of celluloid, or tear from a sheet of blottingpaper, a clouded fonn similar to that shown in Figure 13.Place this form upon the practice sheet, and with agood even spray blow in the design as shown in Fig-ure 13-A. With a good spray, blow in the clouded outline, havingthe color strongest at the edge of the form and fading outgradually as it gets farther away from the form. Here, of course, theobject is not to get a clear cut outline at the edge of the form, as thatin itself would defeat the purpose of the clouded effect. More of asuggestion is what is required, and for that reason a form torn fromblotting paper will probably be more satisfactory in this case thanone of celluloid, and while not so permanent, can at any time be easilyreplaced.
