POLISHED CELTS SHARP AT BOTH ENDS. 121 Fig. 77 represents another celt, in the Edinburgh Museum, of similarsection, but expanding only at the butt-end, which is sharpened, andcontracting from the middle towards the broader end, which, as usual,seems to have been the principal cutting end. It is formed of compactgreenstone, and was found in (Stirlingshire. In general outline it closelyresembles a common Cumberland form, of which, however, the butt isnot sharp. Celts with an edge at each end are rare on the Continent, though theyare of more frequent occurrence in Ireland. One of this character, found in Dauphine, France,* has been engravedby M. Chantre. Another from Portugal f has been described by myself elsewhere. A celt of shorter proportions, batalso provided with a cutting edge ateach end, is shown in Fig. 78. Itis in the collection of the Rev. W.Greenwell, F.S.A., and wTas found atHarome, in the North Riding ofYorkshire, where several stone im-plements of
