/. A ripe feed. The Norfolk Ifland Hibifcus is a tender greenhoufe plant; was introduced to Britain, in the year1792, having been raifed from feeds communicated by Col. Paterfon, then ftationed on that Ifland. It attains the height of 12 feet, or more, becoming a fmall tree; may be increafed readily from cut-tings, and fhould be planted in a mixture of loam and fandy peat. Our figure is from a fpecimenreceived from the Right Hon. Lord Vifcount Courtenay, in whofe collection at Powderham, nearExeter, it flowered for the firft time in the year 1800; and where alfo the feeds ripeued. We have no doubt but this plant belongs to the Genus Lagunaea, of Schreber; but as he propofeshimfelf, and as L Heritier as juftly obferves, the fimplicity of the cup is not a fufficient ground, onwhich to found a new genus; fo we have rather given our prefent fubjeft, the name under which itis in general known, than adopt a title for it which is acknowledged by the author, as ratherunwarrantable. -_=: y>t
