Well, asfor me, I have seen the bull-fights, the flowers, andoranges of Spain, and I wish I could take my littleprincess and go home to Max. From the window they could see Prince Juanwalking in the garden, and by his side steppedBrutus, the master occasionally pausing to pat thedogs head or to stroke his silky ears. He is agood man, remarked the jester, or Brutus wouldnot be so fond of him. Now the prince took a seat on a marble benchbeside the fountain and turned his pale face, withits thoughtful brow, toward the sinking sun, stillabsently drawing the hounds ears through his thinwhite fingers. I said something to him this morn-ing that used to make the emperor laugh, but theprince only smiled in that far-off way, as if hismind were traveling through the moon, said LeGlorieux.
