Summary[edit]
DescriptionThe derelict Ffestiniog Railways approach to Blaenau (geograph 6549363).jpg |
English: The derelict Ffestiniog Railway's approach to Blaenau Looking east along the derelict Ffestiniog Railway from a footbridge (since removed) carrying a path to the nearby school. In the centre, across North Western Road, is the British Rail station. The FR had a station just beyond the water tank on stone base. With the re-opening of the FR a joint interchange station has been built about 500yds further east. The signal, supplied by the FR's signalling contractor McKenzie & Holland, is a remarkable survivor. A view looking west from the footbridge is at: SH6946 : Glan y Pwll level crossing (disused) It is a long time since any regular trains ran on this track: 15th September 1939 for passenger trains, 1st August 1946 for slate trains. In the very early days of the preservation society (1955/56) a few engineering trains managed to get this far from Portmadoc to reclaim materials. It will be another 14 years before regular passenger traffic to Blaenau Ffestiniog resumes on 25th May 1982. |
