ests is shown in Table VIII. The columns marked Deformationon Cross/Deformation on Arm give the average of the ratios atthe unit stress noted in the column manned Unit Stress. Theline of averages at the bottom of the page gives the average foreach compression specimen at all stages of the test. The mean of all these averages is 0.S9 for all three testsincluding the results of 2072 which are thought to be abnormal.Considering only specimens 2071 and 2073 the conclusion is that,for the shape of specimen considered, the unit deformation onthe cross is 0,82 of the unit deformation on the arm. Four compression specimens v/ere tested vrith equal compressionon the two arms to determine the effect of the enlarged sectionat the cross and the effect of two equal stresses at right angleson the unit deformation and on the apparent initial modulus ofelasticity. The results are shovrn in the averaged curves of2050, 2051, 2052 and 2053, Fig. 30, 31, 32, 33, and 34 on pages102, 103, 104, 105 and 106.
