| Description |
English: The end of the line! This is the western end of the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. Until 1966, trains continued on to Newport, passing under a bridge which carried Station Road across the railway. The bridge has now been removed and the road is on an embankment, hidden from view by the shrubbery.
There is a considerable support for the idea of reopening the line to Newport but it would be a major project, particularly at Newport where much of the old railway land has been redeveloped. |
