Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The former Hutton Hall Academy The school was originally founded in 1712 under the will of Dr John Hutton, physician to Queen Anne, but the present building, designed by James Barbour in the Jacobean style and constructed of local sandstone, bears the date 1892 on the central corbie-stepped gable. John Hutton, who had died in 1704, is commemorated by a macabre memorial in Caerlaverock kirkyard (NY0269) showing a skull surrounded by intertwined English roses and Scots thistles.
