I put my hand on the Yankee^s mouth, and lookingup, I caught sight, on the edge of the crag, among somefaggots of wood, of a couple of eaglets, whose sharp criesand fluttering wings announced the coming of one orother of their parents,—a black point in space, whichgradually grew larger and larger, and became clearlydefined against the azure of the heaven. In a fewseconds the eagle alighted as softly as possible on thestony ridge nearest to his eaglets. He carried in histalons a piece of raw flesh, which be hastened to ofier tohis fledgelings, already covered with feathers, and verybold.
