iththey had embraced ; but being hindered by the enemies of theGospel, he sent Timothy to comfort them, and put them inmind of what they had at first heard, namely, that persecutionwould be the constant attendant on their profession. On Timothys departure, St. Paul left Athens, and travelledto Corinth, a very populous place, and famous for its trade. After some stay at Corinth, the apostle was joined by Silasand Timothy, and disputed frequently in the synagogue, reason-soning and proving, that Jesus was the true Messiah. During his stay at Corinth, he wrote his Second Epistle tothe Thessalonians, to supply his absence. In this ppistleheagain endeavors to confirm their minds in the truth of the Gos-pel, and prevent their being shaken with those troubles whichthe wicked and unbelieving Jews would be continually raisingagainst them. St. Paul, on his leaving the church at Corinth, took ship atCenchrea, the port of Corinth, for. Syria, taking with him PAUL PREACHING AT ATHENS. (Page ir:0.)
