onishing wildness. On the east side St. Mary Lake isdestined to world-wide celebrity, but soalso is Lake McDonald on the west side. These are the largest in the park. But some, perhaps many, of thesmaller lakes are candidates for beautyshighest honors. Of these, Lake McDer-mott with its minaretted peaks standsfirst—perhaps because best known, forhere is one of the finest hotels in anynational park and a luxurious camp. Upper Two Medicine Lake is an-other east-side candidate widely knownbecause of its accessibility, while far tothe north the Belly River Valley, diffi-cult to reach and seldom seen, holdslakes, fed by eighteen glaciers, whichwill compare with Switzerlands noblest. The west-side valleys north of Mc-Donald constitute a little-known wil-derness of the earths choicest scenery, destined to future appreciation. The Continental Divide is usuallycrossed by the famous Gunsight PassTrail, which skirts giant precipices anddevelops sensational vistas in its ser-pentine course. (166)
