When chap-lains were connected wit Iiregiments in active ser-vice, any improvised tentor barrel for an altar orpulpit was utilized forthe ministers benefit.The question of denom-ination rarely enteredthe minds of the men.Where a church edificewas near the camps, orwhen located near somevillage or city, serviceswere held within the edi-fice, but this was veryinfrequent. The campat Arlington Heights waslocated directly oppositeWashington and George-town, D. (., overlookingthe banks of the PotomacRiver on the Virginiaside. The Ninth Massa-chusetts was a regimentcomposed of Irish volun-teers from the vicinity ofBoston.
