ys:— We are glad to see that the authorities have realizedthe danger which was likely to arise from the position ofthe tramwav line, recently laid down in Cuiro, at thehead of Boolak street, where it joins the road betweenShepheards and the Opera Square, A portion of thepavement is being removed, the width of the street beingthereby increased. Now that so many of the Cairoroads are occupied by a double line of tramways, itwould be very advantageous to increase the width of theroadway in this manner in several of the thoroughfares, when the width of the pavement or footpath is out ofproportion to that of the driving road. There are manystreets, along which the tramways are to pass, in whicha slice off the edge of the footpath would not incon-venience foot passengers and would be a boon to carri-age traffic. The e.xact date of the opening of the newtramways is not yet definitely fixed but it is likely thatall the lines will commence work together in July next. (^Ha^ J^ailM^ J^VmV* Klf)

The right hand isthe most powerful, applying the shoe to the outside of thewheel while the left hand works a toggle joint betweenthe wheels and h is one-half the braking power of theright hand. When starting down grade the motormanpulls back his left lever and the tlninib latch holds it.Then with his right hand or both hands the motormanlets his car down grade at any desired speed in a mannerconsistent with comfort to his passengers and withoutstrain to his muscles or any fear that his car will get
