Then everything happened at once. Both cubs jumped up quickly and one rolled overfairly upon Margarets head. She screamed and strug-gled to her feet. She saw both cubs scrambling madlyup a tree. She also heard a short, sharp growl and thecrash of breaking bushes. A great shaggy, brown headwith staring eyes, hanging jaws, and glistening whiteteeth pushed swiftly into view not a hundred feetaway. Margaret screamed wildly anid ran as she had neverrun before. She heard a snort behind her and fastpadding footsteps. She miraculously escaped thetrees as she ran. A few moments later she was sobbingin Uncle Billys arms. Great excitement, of course, had followed the dis-covery of Margarets disappearance. The camp wasaroused and a score of searchers invaded the woods inall directions.
