Fig. 41, Indian relics found in Tennessee More Discoveries 129 The cave contained beautiful stalactites and sta-lagmites, caused by the dripping of the water fromthe roof, while on the floor were heaps of shells,bones, pieces of pottery, stone implements, and otherrelics such as are found where Indians have lived.There were carvings on the walls, however, andterra cotta images on the floor, which indicated re-lationship with the ancient Mexican tribes ratherthan with those in the eastern United States. It seemed wonderful to Henry and William to bestanding in the home of a vanished race, looking attheir handiwork on the walls, judging from the re-mains what they had eaten for dinner, and evengazing at their bones.
