Summary[edit]
| Description |
English: Toll gate site. The bungalow occupies the site of a C19 tollgate where the old Cardigan-Fishguard turnpike started to descend towards the harbour. It was called Parc-y-morfa toll after the farm just visible beyond and was placed so charges could be extracted from anyone entering/leaving the town or the harbour on this road. In the 1843 local protesters known as the Rebecca Rioters twice tore down the tollgate here, and at the other end of Fishguard (see 276106), and caused serious disturbances in the town. |
