| Description |
English: Toll house, Ross-on-Wye Old toll house on the Ross to Monmouth road at Copse Cross, operated by the Ross Turnpike Trust, from 1748. An Act of Parliament was passed in 1730 that allowed groups to take over maintenance of sections of road. In return for their effort, the group, called a Turnpike Trust, could install tollgates and turnpikes and at these points charge people for passage along their roads.
