Summary
[edit]DescriptionToppled gravestone in All Saints graveyard, Compton - geograph.org.uk - 1235339.jpg |
English: Toppled gravestone in All Saints graveyard, Compton. A victim of the infamous "topple-test", see https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200708/cmhansrd/cm080506/debtext/80506-0020.htm . According to modern health and safety rules, steel dowels are supposed to secure the cross to its base. In this case the dowels were wooden.
The inscription (right) reads "In loving memory of Col. W. L. Brockman, late 86th regt and A.P.D., died 15th Jan 1920, aged 81". The left inscription reads "And their second son Arthur Charles Francis who died in Lancaster in 1888 aged 16". A third inscription (not seen) commemorates the wife. |
