omI have met have attracted me by their pleasantmanners, and generally prepossessing appearance. The streets here seem very much alike, and thedwellings, which are mostly built of wood, aresimilar in structure. The town is built on thesloping side of a hill, and, like all other settlementsin this region of rich, fresh and abundant watercourses, and extensive forests, carries on largefisheries and sawmills. The natives are about asuninviting as those we have seen elsewhere uponour journey, although it is said that the women ofthis district are expert and industrious, being notedfor their skill in weaving, and their artistic designsin coloring and combining figures in their baskets ;while the men display curious and original carvingson silver bracelets, horn and wooden souvenirs, andlittle totem poles.
