Summary
[edit]DescriptionTown Hall, Dewsbury - geograph.org.uk - 230866.jpg |
English: Town Hall, Dewsbury. This Town Hall houses both the council offices and two public halls. It was completed in 1889, and was designed by Holton and Fox, of Dewsbury. Mr Fox also designed Morley Town Hall, and he went on to be mayor of Dewsbury in 1894, just one year after being first elected onto the council. It is not clear on the photo (I should have noticed that the pedestrians were in line with it!) but there is a grand flight of steps up to the main entrance on the first floor. The road on the left side of the building was the main road to Leeds, and the one on the right side to Wakefield, but these have now both been intercepted by the ring road. |
