Las tres tablas que forman este tríptico representan episodios de la Pasión: una de las tres caídas de Cristo en el camino hacia el Calvario, la Crucifixión y el Descendimiento Obra anónima, en la tabla central aparece representado el donante o comitente del tríptico, un caballero arrodillado, vestido con el hábito de la orden de Santiago, presentado en la escena sagrada por el arcángel San Gabriel, que muestra en una filacteria la salutación a la Virgen en la Anunciación: "Ave [María] Gracia Plena". Este saludo simboliza el inicio del ciclo de la Salvación que culmina en la Resurrección, aludida por la calavera, símbolo del triunfo de Jesucristo sobre la muerte y el pecado original. Perteneció a la Capilla del Instituto de Huesca. Su ejecución se encuadra en la abundante importación de trípticos y polípticos flamencos encargados por la nobleza española, destinados a sus capillas privadas y a los templos que jalonaban el camino de Santiago. Sin embargo, el hecho de que el donante sea español por el hábito que luce, y que en el reverso de las puertas figuren sus escudos, unido a la procedencia de la obra, permite pensar que fue encargada a algún pintor asentado en la Corona de Aragón, posiblemente en Zaragoza, ya fuera flamenco o español influido por el arte de los Países Bajos.
