English: Track around Offa's Pool Offa's Pool is fed by two small brooks which pass under these two bridges on the track which goes around the pool.
Offa's Pool is one of several pools in Leighton Park woods. Various sources suggest they were built and used in association with a water turbine which powered machinery, including a funicular railway, on this high-tech Victorian Estate. I have also read that they fed a decorative cascade near the Hall itself. See http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/mid/sites/welshpool/pages/leightonhall.shtml This one now contains a very small puddle where the two brooks meet and a lot of trees. I personally doubt the brick dam could ever have held back much water as it looks unsupported on the downhill side. On the left is a pheasant feeder and you may be able to make out several birds on the further bridge, there were a lot of them about. |
