Summary[edit]

Description
English: Tramway Museum, Crich. Sheffield was one of the very few British cities that ordered new trams after the Second World War, for the vehicles were out of favour in London, Manchester, Birmingham and many other places, as it was considered that they were old-fashioned and got in the way of private cars. No 510 shown here was built as late as 1952 as part of an order for 30 or so modern double-deckers. The only other British cities to build large numbers of cars after the war were Liverpool and Glasgow. It is interesting to note that the tramcar never fell from favour in Germany, which became the most prosperous country in Europe, while other cities which got rid of their trams are now wanting them back!
