I was muchpleased with the picturesque aspect of all the littleislands in the gulf; but our voyage was far longer thanwe expected, three days being its usual duration, whileowing to a strong head-wind it occupied us for eight.We met with an accident which was fatal to one of ourparty, and might have been so to all of us. On thenight of the 31st December our boat was making rapidway under the influence of a violent wind. Suddenly wefelt a violent shock, immediately followed by a second,and then the vessel remained stationary.
