Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Trig pillar on Black Rigg This mossy trig pillar was constructed as a key component of the Primary Retriangulation of Britain, 1935-62 Retriangulation_of_Great_Britain . Subsequent afforestation of Kershope Forest severely reduced visibility from this particular pillar. If it was used subsequent to the original observations, it must have been by use of a temporary tower constructed directly over the pillar. Recent developments in GPS technology haver rendered nearly all these pillars redundant. This one still seems to have some visitors - a number of small coins of the Realm (a good luck offering?) have been left on top of the pillar.
