| Description |
English: Tumulus? Probably There is a tumulus marked at this spot on the OS map, and at first I thought that the nearby mound shown in 1118103 was it - not so, however. There is a definite, if small, mound to be seen here, a few metres to the north of the airfield structure, although it is difficult to see in this photo (and on the ground), and I think that this must be the remains of the tumulus (assuming it does / did exist, and is not a figment of the OS map-maker's mind). It's not surprising that so little remains of the tumulus as this is part of the site of the old WWII Martlesham Heath airfield. |
