Summary[edit]

Description
English: A group of chief petty officers (CPO) charge books sit on display below decks of the South Dakota class battleship, USS Massachusetts (BB-59), in Fall River, Mass., during a community relations project. The CPOs charge book serves as a symbol of pride, naval history and tradition, as well as a source of wisdom and learning for Navy chiefs. Eight CPO selectees from U.S. Naval War College, Naval Station Newport, and Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, R.I., participated in the COMREL project, which served as an opportunity to contribute toward the preservation and restoration of the battleship. The Massachusetts, affectionately nicknamed Big Mamie by its crew, currently sits moored pierside at Battleship Cove in Fall River, Mass., and serves as a museum ship for the Massachusetts Memorial Committee.
