Summary

[edit]
Description
Suomi: Pietarin tulva 5. syyskuuta 1879. Kuva julkaistu Suomen Kuvalehdessä marraskuussa 1879.

Kuvien selitykset: 1. Liki hovin rantakatua irtautui ja upposi suuri halkoalus. 2. Katu liki tiedeakatemiaa oli kokonaan veden vallassa. 3. 5. Uivat sillat tulivat mahdottomiksi ylipäästä. Paisunut vesi kohotti ne harjun muotoon. 6. Myrsky repi pois ja viskasi maahan monta rautapeltiä katosta, monta kylttiä puotien edestä.

7.-10. Kaupungin ympärille tuli sangen paljon vahinkoa.
English: Flooding of St. Petersburg on 5th September 1879. Image published in Finnish periodical Suomen Kuvalehti in November 1879.

Images: 1. Large vessel carrying logs sank near the strand avenue. 2. Street by the Science Academy was completely under water. 3. Through darkness and gunpowder smoke flashed cannon shots indicating, that the water level had reach its normal maximum height. 4. In summer park trees were swaying like grass and many of them fell down with their roots. 5. Floating bridges became impossible to cross. Rising water shaped them into a form of hills. 6. The storm removed many metal roofs and casted them on ground. Many shops lost their signs.

7.-10. There were severe damage across the city.
