Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Wakerley and Barrowden Station
This shows the typical wooden superstructure of many wayside stations on the London and North Western Railway, although the roof has been extended at both ends over what would probably originally have been flat roofed toilets and/or lamp rooms. The line ran on an embankment at this point, so the wooden-built platform buildings are at high level, and a brick plinth with the brick booking hall extended on this side. This originally had a pitched roof. Not visible in this picture, the ground floor brick structure now has windows on the opposite side, the embankment having been completely removed. The house beyond would have been the station master's accommodation. I didn't find picture of the station as it was probably about the time of closure in 1965 LinkExternal link until after I got back from the trip, but it is taken from almost the precise same location.
