Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Wantyn Dyke. Nowadays little more than a shallow ditch running down the field, although it must have been a more impressive sight when it was first constructed. Its line can be traced further to the northwest, through SO1891 and SO1990, before it stops being marked on the modern maps.

There seems to be little information available about Wantyn Dyke itself, or when it was constructed. The most informative source I can find is [1], but that mainly concerns itself with a feature called Wansdyke/Watsdyke, which runs from the Dee Estuary at Basingwerk to the Maesbury area. Such evidence as there is suggests that the much smaller Wantyn Dyke may well be contemporal with that, and was therefore probably built sometime around 650-800 AD. Again, I can find no definitive information, just speculation. It is, after all, just a bit of a ditch on a few hillsides...
